User Experience Podcasts
After growing tired of listening to talk radio during my commute, I get enough music when I’m at work, I thought I’d enter the 21st century and try some podcasts. If you’re not familiar with podcasts you should watch Common Craft’s excellent video on this subject.
Here are the few I’ve listened to so far:
- UXpod - User Experience Podcast
- boagworld - Web Design Podcast
- The Rissington Podcast
- Design Critique: Products for People
Which ones do I recommend? So far the two I’ve been most impressed with are UXpod and Design Critique. The two UXpod episodes I listened to are interviews with Jakob Nielson and Luke Wroblewski (whose new book I’m currently reading). The Design Critique episode I listened to is an interview with Andy Budd. All three of these episodes: start promptly; dive right into the content; and provide useful, and sometimes actionable, information.
I wasn’t very impressed with boagworld since by the time they started talking about something meaningful I was pulling into my driveway. The guys seemed a bit fatigued from SxSW so maybe I just listened to a bad episode. The Rissington Podcast is amusing and seems to intentionally be a mix of web design content and witty british banter. It seems to lean more toward the banter side of things but I think it might grow on me if I give it a shot.
Are there any others I shouldn’t miss?

If you are interested in a general design podcast, check out Design Matters with Debbie Millman. It’s a rebroadcast of her radio show. Debbie kinda gets on my nerves sometimes, but she gets loads of interviews with some of the biggest names in the design community.

Thanks Rusty. Smashing Magazine also just posted a fairly extensive list of design podcasts. Looks like there is plenty of listening fodder for my commute.
