Where do you solve problems?

A recent post from a colleague reminded me about one of the reasons I cut my own lawn: it gives me time to think about and solve problems. Often, after finishing up outside, I’ll head indoors and jot down solutions to problems I’ve been working through. There is something about the fresh air, the rhythm of the lawnmower engine, and walking in a concentric pattern that puts my mind into a state where it can do some real work.

I sometimes have to remind myself that staring at a computer screen isn’t always going to lead to THE solution. It might lead to A solution but there are times it’s just better for me to turn the screen off and go somewhere else. Note, this might mean mentally going somewhere else and using a pencil instead of a mouse to work on the problem.

So I’m curious. Where do you solve problems?
